Five For Free #97

Line & Circle - Roman Ruins

White Iris are fast proving themselves to be one of the hottest independent labels around, and this week they uncovered another gem in LA band Line & Circle who they've just released a 7" single by. You can grab a free download of the awesome indie-pop track 'Roman Ruins' with its powerful melodies and charming guitars. A word of warning though, it's pretty addictive.

Puro Instinct - Dream Lover

Last year's debut album 'Headbangers In Ecstasy' didn't go unnoticed but it definitely didn't receive as much acclaim as it deserved. It was like entering a strange and fuzzy dream world where nothing was quite as it seemed. The Puro Instinct pair have announced a follow-up EP to be released in the autumn and have made shimmery new track 'Dream Lover' available for free.

Ava Luna - Waterduct

This track from New York indie/soul artist Ava Luna is the latest instalment of Weathervane Music's Shaking Through series which documents the birth of a song from start to finish. 'Waterduct' is a curious beast, beginning with a fairly straightforward rock intro, it morphs into a soul/trip-hop hybrid with shifting time signatures and choppy, experimental structures.

Glocca Morra - Y'all Boots Hats (Die Angry)

Philadelphia-based punks Glocca Morra released their new album 'Just Married' last week on Kind Of Like Records and free download 'Y'all Boots Hats (Die Angry)' (nope, us neither) begins as a great big hunk of dumb punk fun before unleashing a screaming and melodic chorus, taking the song up a peg or two, but not enough to become taxing, this is essentially pure, primal guitar thrills aplenty.

Shintaro Sakamoto - In A Phantom Mood

The name may be unfamiliar, but Shintaro Sakamoto has been a hero of Tokyo's underground music scene for over twenty years, most notably as frontman of Yura Yura Teikoku. On his first solo album he carries on in the similar psych-pop vein to his old band, and free track 'In A Phantom Mood' treads similar ground to that explored by Super Furry Animals.
