Antonia Serra - Obstacle Of My Affection

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

If you're a drummer at the moment it seems obligatory that you have your own side-project or release solo work too. Everyone's at it. We recently featured the new album from Tintagel band Dead Wolf Club, and it turns out their drummer makes solo stuff too. Good to know the guys are keeping up with current trends. It does beg the question of whether or not she saves her best songs for her own project or for the band, but that's an argument for us to start and them to finish (sorry guys!). Antonia Serra has released three tracks this month, the latest of which is 'Obstacle Of My Affection'.

It doesn't take a genius to work out what the track is about, but in case you're a bit stupid, here's the quote from her Bandcamp page: "The tumultuous ride of relationships......". So now you know. Considering his band offer up a rockier sound, it may not be a point of contention that Serra has her solo project at all, as the sound is far removed from Dead Wolf Club. It's more electronic, more poppy and more atmospheric. Keyboards and electronics take over where guitars would normally lead and the overall feel is quite different. So by the looks of it they can all remain friends and we can get two decent musical acts out of one group. Bonus.
