Travis Bretzer - Lady Red

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

The title of this song sends shivers down the spine purely due to its similarity to that horrible 80s song. Don't be put of though, Canadian singer Travis Bretzer may have a love song here, but that's where the Chris De Urgh similarities end. To be honest we don't have much info on the guy, although he did release an album back in 2010. Perhaps 'Lady Red' could signify that a follow-up is on the way? He has been subject to a little hype lately, so perhaps some people who know more than us have heard more than us too...

All will be revealed in due course, so if we use this track as a potential marker for other new recordings then we can expect sweet romance done dirt cheap. This isn't shoddy lo-fi by any means, it sounds excellent, and this is due to the fact that it's not varnished so much that any emotion is buried beneath a think layer of toxic effects. 'Lady Red' has an instantly likable sound with the twanging guitar that introduces it, and Bretzer's lazy croon fits the style like a glove. Emotions are a natural thing, so why people try and capture them in such hideously unnatural ways is beyond us. Take note, De Burgh. This is how it's done.
