Five For Free #217

Manicanparty - Monarch

With the first recorded use of the phrase "badass timpani drumming" this year ever, we're introduced to 'Monarch', a track from US tribal-pop duo Manican Party. The song has actually been doing the rounds since last year but was only recently brought to our attention as it's soon to appear on their debut EP. It makes a welcome change from your general indie/electro sounds by adding an exotic twist.

Imaginary People - Better Minds

Is everyone up to speed with Imaginary People? If not then pop along to here where we had a chat with the New York band last month and unveiled the first track, Fresh On', to be taken from their new EP. That self-titled release is now available and the new single from it is the awesome electro-glam stomp of 'Better Minds' which is free below.

The Bordellos - Weird K

I guess 'Weird K' is what sonic cosmonauts eat for breakfast instead of Special K. Taken from The Bordellos forthcoming new album 'Ronco Revival', this freebie is the first taste from a record that is set to explore the magic of music. This whimsical pop delight feels somehow like it belongs on a record released by the Harvest label in about 1971, and that's no bad thing.

Pleasure Curses - Bounce Above

The Washington, DC duo have hit the nail on the head with the title of this new single. 'Bounce Above' is a bouncy electronica/pop song that marks out Pleasure Curses as one of the US's finest proponents of tunes that are designed both for the dancefloor and for regular listening. With crossover potential intact, we're hoping these guys become big news soon.

There's Talk - The Salt

There's Talk are a new band from San Francisco. They describe themselves as "electronic folk" but will also do nice things to the ears of people who like dreampop. They released their debut EP 'Tiny Strands' last month and have picked the quite gorgeous 'The Salt' as the single used to promote the EP. It's a delicate piece and impresses as a first offering.
