New York band All Forces will be releasing their new EP 'Sons & Daughters' on April 8th, less than a year after they formed. Listening to single 'Blood' you realise that this band could follow in the footsteps of some of the best alt-rock bands the US has to offer (the current standard bearers are The National and there's a tinge of their sound here), but as they point out on their website: "we sound like reverb". So what we're dealing with is the now familiar US rock sound being statically charged and then rolled around in wool so that the edges aren't quite as clean and the sound isn't quite as polished.
It's a format that serves them well, and 'Blood' does up the scuzz-factor a little, perhaps making them more appealing to fans of more left-field music. That said, structurally this is conventional and very well-written, so it leaves them with a large catchment area. They've tagged themselves as "shoegaze" which is pushing it a bit, but if you like your guitars to come with a touch more distortion than normal then it's worth lending an ear to this track and looking out for more in a few weeks' time.
