Five For Free #266

Quick note - SoundCloud have been fiddling with themselves again! To get the downloads, hit the arrow on the top-right of the players.

CHAMP - Burnt Alive

" I don't wanna walk down memory lane" sing San Diego's CHAMP as they ironically take us on a trip back to the US college-rock scene of the 1990s. Still, it's difficult to knock 'Burnt Alive' as a song though, it would have been a big hit on the underground then, and it deserves to be one now. The trio released their self-titled debut album earlier this week.

The Caribbean - Jobsworth

Also hitting your local download store this week is 'Moon Sickness', the sixth album from Washington, DC band The Caribbean. Physical copies will follow at the start of March, and judging by freebie Jobsworth', we can expect a mixture of indie and alt-rock sounds that lean toward the more experimental side of things while keeping a close watch on strong melodies.

Ramona Lisa - Arcadia

Brooklyn's Chairlift have never been ones to rush things, spreading their two albums over four years. Those waiting for the third might have to keep doing so, as Caroline Polachek has launched a side-project under the name Ramona Lisa. Mid-April is the date for the album, but the experimental, mysterious soundscape that is the title-track can be yours now.

Mainland - Savant

This is the second time this week we've featured New York indie-rock/powerpop group Mainland, following the title-track to their new EP 'Shiner'. You can purchase the whole thing from next week, but in the mean time, here's another fine single from them. It's called 'Savant' and contains those same classic ingredients that 'Shiner' did. It's shaping up to be a top EP.

The Duke Of Norfolk - The South

Much as we'd be interested in hearing what musical treats Edward Fitzalan-Howard (thanks, Wikipedia) would come up with, The Duke Of Norfolk in question here is actually an American called Adam Howard who taps into rock, indie and folk's rich histories to create anthemic beauties like 'The South' which is from his album 'Birds... Fly South'.
